At Plug&Cool, we’re constantly looking at ways to improve our products to make life easier for farmers, but also to strengthen the Plug&Cool brand. The newest addition to the Plug&Cool product range is the underfloor cooling system, Plug&Cool Outdoor. Launched in December 2023, the Plug&Cool Outdoor System was an instant hit with farmers in the UK and gained a lot of interest at Agritechnica 23 in Hannover, Germany. After a full year on the UK market lots of positive feedback from farmers, some minor improvements have been made to enhance durability and versatility of the new system.

Galvanised Steel Base Plate

The base plate that locks into the manhole is now made from galvanised steel, with a fully perforated 150mm ring for excellent airflow to the pedestal. The solid base is interchangeable with other older, outdated cooling systems and will fit any manhole entry. This means that farmers who wish to upgrade to the Plug&Cool system can do so with no added building work. Farmers simply have to remove the previous base plate and replace it with the much sturdier version that locks into the existing manhole. The base plate also has a 150mm steel rod that a plastic marker fits onto.

New and improved pedestal cap

The existing 1m pedestal is unchanged in design but will boast a new and improved cap that is manufactured from Polypropylene plastic. The new cap fits easily onto the pedestal adaptor and due to its plastic material, is resistant to condensation and rust, just like the 1m pedestal. The added benefit is the versatility of the adaptor sleeve as farmers can remove the cap, slide a 2m top pipe onto the adaptor, and then use aluminium fans on the top pipe for a standard flat store pedestal. It also has a guide ring for the mounted plastic marker so that it stays visible once grain is added to the store. As with all Plug&Cool Poly Pedestals, the 1m pedestal has better airflow than its metal counterpart and will last a lifetime due to its durability and resistance to rust.

Weatherproof fans

Plug&Cool fans are the original and best for cooling grain. They’ve been tried and trusted by farmers in the UK and abroad for more than 35 years and are proven to withstand the toughest conditions inside a grain store. We know that they can endure lots of dust particles, but what of their durability when situated outside the grain store? When the cooling fan is positioned outside, rainwater can easily get into the electric motor’s fan cowl and cause problems for the bearings inside. At Plug&Cool, we’ve engineered a protective rain canopy that is fitted to the fan cowl. This reduces any water ingress and ultimately protects the electric motor, bringing longer life to the cooling fan. Now farmers can have the confidence of leaving the fans outside in all weather conditions, all year round. We’ve also added a longer, 2m flex and plug to the fan, making it easier to connect to the wall socket on the outer wall of the barn.

Easy to clean

As we mentioned previously, the Plug&Cool pedestal and top hat are made from twin-walled poly plastic, and this makes them easy to clean down and store at the end of harvest. With a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty on all Plug&Cool grain cooling fans and an almost indestructible pedestal, the Plug&Cool Outdoor is an absolute must have for any farmer who’s considering an underfloor cooling system, or looking to upgrade from the inferior metal alternatives.
